Patio Spaces: Using Them Year Round

Patio Spaces: Using Them Year Round

When I bought my home, the patio had a lot to do with my decision. I saw it as the perfect place for parties, cookouts, and lounging in the sun. What I didn't realize is that the right accessories would allow me to use the space year round. I compared several retractable designs offered by different patio cover companies before I found the right one. I've also purchased portable heaters that allow me to use the space for outdoor events when the temperature is a little nippy. If you like the idea of using your patio any time of the year, stick with me for a few minutes. I'll tell you which accessories I bought and how I use them. Before long, you will also be able to enjoy your patio no matter what the weather is doing.

Problems With Your Granite Countertops? 4 Signs You Need To Have Them Restored

If you've chosen granite countertops for your new home, you've made an excellent choice. Granite countertops are extremely durable and long-lasting. Not only that, but they add beauty and distinction to any kitchen. But, you will need to give them the care and maintenance they need. As durable as granite countertops are, they can suffer some damage. Luckily, if your countertops do suffer some damage over the years, the beauty can be restored. If you're not sure when your countertops will need to be restored, read the list provided below. Here are four instances when you may need the services of a restoration company for your granite countertops.

Cracks

If you get in the habit of placing heavy loads on your granite countertops, you could begin to see cracks in the surface. This is especially true if the countertops were installed over an uneven surface. The uneven surface will prevent an even distribution of weight, which will lead to cracks in the granite. Luckily, you may not need to replace the entire countertop. However, you should hire a restoration service to take care of the repairs. With professional repairs, the cracks can be removed and the structural integrity of the granite can be restored.

Luster Loss

If you're not careful with the cleaning products you use on your new granite countertops, you may lose some of the brilliant shine over the years. The luster loss is a result of residue buildup. It's also the result of etching, which is something that can happen when you use abrasive cleaners on your granite countertops. To avoid the problem altogether, always use cleaning products that are designed specifically for granite countertops. But, if you do notice that your granite countertops are losing their luster, have them restored as soon as possible.

Seam Splits

Seam splits are another issue you'll need to watch for once you have your granite countertops installed. Seam splits can occur when the compound used to seal the seams together becomes unstable. As the adhesive weakens, the seams between connecting granite pieces can loosen. When that happens, you'll notice a separation between the sections. While separation doesn't mean that your granite countertops will need to be fully replaced, it does mean that you'll need to have restorative work done on the affected sections.

Scorch Marks

Finally, if you do a lot of cooking, you can expect at least a couple of scorch marks on your countertops. Scorch marks occur when you forget to use hot pads under your hot pots and pans. Unfortunately, when you place hot pots and pans directly onto exposed granite, scorch marks can happen. Luckily, those scorch marks can be removed through granite restoration services.
